## BOCCONI UNIVERSITY

## BEMACS - Bachelor of Science in Economics, Management and Computer Science

##

## BEMACS is definitely in the top three of my "the most difficult undergraduate programs" list. Quantitative courses are way above the undergraduate level, I explained this with examples below. Above all, the second year trio of "Advanced Mathematics", "Advanced Statistics", "Econometrics" makes BEMACS a program that requires real effort to graduate. That's why it is pretty normal that BEMACS students need help for their coursework. What I do is dividing very difficult course content into easier and digestible pieces in my tutoring sessions.

##

## Mathematics 30400

## First math course at BEMACS. It includes subjects like Calculus, Linear Algebra, Topology which are taken in separate courses in the US. The course was renovated and it became much more proof-based. This makes sense; because most of BEMACS exams includes very difficult proof questions. In this course, there are also true-false and multiple choice questions in the exams. Although it contains many subjects, the course is easier to pass compared to other BEMACS courses. Hence, there is a high chance of passing at the first trial.

##

## At the online exams during the pandemics, there was no long proof questions. Exams were based on applications with short open and multiple choice questions.

##

##

## Statistics 30401

## First statistics course at BEMACS. It follows the standard statistics course syllabus: probability, probability distributions, estimation, confidence interval and hypothesis testing. Due to both the quality of exam questions and the successful integration of R software, I think it is one of the best statistics courses that I have tutored. The wide past exam question archive makes it easier to prepare for the exams.

## Macroeconomics, 30409

##

## BEMACS Macroeconomics course is pretty similar to other Bocconi macroeconomics courses. Ferraguto book of questions is very important to prepare for the exams, exam questions are similar to the ones in the book. The course is based on the IS-LM model, that is the case for most undergraduate macroeconomics courses in most universities.

##

## Econometrics 30413

## It is a highly demanding 2nd year BEMACS course which is based on techniques of linear regression. The difficulty of the exams is at the US Econ PhD program level. First part of the course is highly theoretical and matrix based. Second part is more applied and it is similar to other undergraduate econometrics courses. Exams include questions on interpreting R codes.

## Students are assumed to be highly proficient in probability-statistics and matrix theory. All in all it is a very demanding course.

## Applied Mathematics 30407

## In my opinion, this course is the toughest BEMACS course. As I always tell my students, it is a very important stage along the way towards getting the BEMACS degree. The course has two main parts, linear algebra and multivariable function optimization. The exams usually consist of theoretical questions. Even short questions may be in the form of proofs. Briefly, the course has very tough exams.

##

## Advanced Statistical Methods 30408

## This second-year BEMACS course includes topics even many master statistics courses do not include. The course expects proficiency in theoretical background of statistical topics and application of complex theorems. For example, almost all undergraduate statistics courses include only the application of hypothesis testing, in this course students are expected to design test by using Neyman-Pearson Lemma. Although it is a very interesting course for statistics lovers, hard exams and tough grading policy might cause repeating the course again and again.
